A Frenchman, an American and a Russian, finalists of the 61st Jaén International Piano Competition of the City Council

The City of Granada Orchestra, conducted by Paul Mann, will accompany these pianists in the decisive event, which will be held on Friday, May 3, at the Infanta Leonor Theatre

The pianists Nicolas Bourdoncle, from France, Sun-A Park, from the United States, and Alexander Koryakin, from Russia, will be the finalists of the 61st Jaén International Piano Contest organised by the City Council of Jaén after the celebration today of the semifinal of this musical contest, one of the oldest held in Spain. The City of Granada Orchestra, conducted by Paul Mann, will accompany them during the last round of this contest, which will take place next Friday, May 3, at the Infanta Leonor Theatre.

During this phase, the three finalists will fight to get the first prize of this prestigious contest, endowed with 20,000 euros, Gold Medal, diploma, the recording of a disc with the label Naxos and a four-date tour to be held in Granada (the day after the final), as well as in Jaén, Úbeda and Bochum (Germany).

The first to perform in this final will be the French Nicolas Bourdoncle, who will play in this decisive test the concert for piano and orchestra number 1, in E minor Op. 11, by Chopin. Despite his youth, this pianist, born in 1998, has already offered concerts in Spain and America. Bourdoncle began his musical studies in Marseille, which he completed at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid and which he is now perfecting with Nelson Goerner at the HEM in Geneva.

After this young interpreter, the American pianist Sun-A Park will participate in this final, who has chosen for her last performance the concert for piano and orchestra number 1 in E flat major S.124, by Liszt. Park, who has offered recitals in the United States, Spain, Italy, Israel and Japan, among other countries, has recorded for the label Naxos part of the essential dedicated to Muzio Clementi. Born in 1988, this interpreter completed her higher education in United States and Germany and has won prizes at Sendai International and at Ferruccio Busoni. Finally, in third place will be the Russian Alexander Koryankin, who will perform the concert for piano and orchestra number 1 in E flat major S.124, by Liszt. Also born in 1988, this performer has already offered more than 500 recitals throughout his career. He has perfected at the Gnessin Music Academy and has a vast list of awards, which include first prizes in competitions as the Vladimir Horowitz, from Ukraine, or the Semyon Bendistsky, from Russia, among others.

In order to prepare their participation in the final of the 61st Jaén International Piano Competition, the three finalists will travel during Thursday morning to the capital of Granada to rehearse with the City of Granada Orchestra. Paul Mann will conduct this orchestra that has awards such as the Manuel de Falla Award, the Andalusian Music Award or the medals of honor of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Granada and the International Festival of Music and Dance of that city, among others.
